Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima are the talented duo behind the graphic art in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beast films. The wanted posters, magazines, Daily Prophet, school books, and even the funky labels of the Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes products are all intricately illustrated by MinaLima. While this is already very cool, they also have tons of other beautiful designs under their belt and I especially love their fully illustrated versions of classic tales. After The Jungle Book, Peter Pan and The Beauty and The Beast, last week the latest instalment in this gorgeous collection was published: The Little Mermaid and Other Fairy Tales.
While the previous books contained a single classic tale, as The Little Mermaid is a slightly shorter story, the latest stunning addition to MinaLima's book collection contains additional fairy tales, including The Little Duckling, The Snow Queen, The Princess and the Pea, The Emperor's New Clothes, and many more. While it's already a delight to revisit each of Hans Christian Andersen's stories, which I haven't read in many years, it's the incredible design throughout that makes this book truly stand out from any other incarnations of the same stories and a worthy addition to any book lover's collection.
Not only does the design feature MinaLima's signature illustrations on every single page, from colourful imagery to beautifully designed letters, but there are also many clever interactive elements that mirror a pop-up book. This is so unique and so cool, that if you weren't already coveting the entire collection based on the eye-catching covers alone), then a flick through the pages to admire the delightful pop out features will truly capture your imagination. These books are truly something very special and The Little Mermaid and Other Fairy Tales is an incredible addition to the collection!
I was also fortunate enough to attend the launch for this beautiful book at House of MinaLima last week. If you're not yet familiar with this shop and exhibition space in central London then make sure you change this asap. It's one of my absolute staples to takes friends and family to when they're visiting and I absolutely love the place. The shop sells amazing art work by MinaLima in addition to tons of Harry Potter merch and the upper floors show rotating exhibitions of their work. It's super awesome, intricately designed, and an amazing addition to London's West End (it's conveniently located behind the Palace Theatre where the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is currently running).
Both Mira and Eduardo were present at the launch and we had a chance to chat to them both briefly which was delightful. Eduardo mentioned that there are (for now) an astonishing twelve books in the collection in the works, so after the publication of The Secret Garden later this year there are at least seven more books to look forward to, which is very exciting! They also signed my copies of Peter Pan and The Beauty and the Beast, which I'd brought along for the occasion, and genuinely were so very lovely, it was a real pleasure to meet them at last, after admiring their work for so long! Huge thanks to the teams Harper360 and House of MinaLima for the invite. ♥
